Ways to Give to Historic Sotterley Plantation

Our generous supporters are the reason Sotterley Plantation is able to offer quality educational programming and cultural events that our guests have come to expect. Our donor’s generosity ensures the success of our signature annual events which draw visitors from not only the local region but also from the Washington DC area and beyond. Your voluntary charitable contributions – whether through IT support or silver polishing, large annual financial gifts or regular monthly donations, Corporate Circle memberships or family memberships – are absolutely critical to the ongoing preservation and interpretation of this National Historic Landmark and allow us to act as stewards of the public trust. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) public charity, we rely on your philanthropic support to continue hosting thousands of school children and visitors each year while we share our site’s unique history and stories.

In addition, individual supporters whose aggregate giving equals $5,000 and above will be given recognition in The Sotterley Society. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

See the many ways you can contribute to the last remaining Tidewater plantation in Maryland that’s open to the public.

Our volunteers are the lifeblood of Sotterley Plantation’s day-to-day operations, educational programs, and special events. Without the charitable contribution of their time and their willingness to serve as stewards, Sotterley Plantation could not carry out our mission. To contribute your time to preserving and protecting this National Historic Landmark, apply now to become part of the Sotterley family!

Annual Giving
Twice per year, we ask our loyal friends to extend their support with an additional gift. While we focus on a spring appeal and a year-end appeal, annual gifts to the general fund are always appreciated! To make a donation to Sotterley, simply click on the Donate button where you can also choose to make regular monthly contributions as part of your philanthropy strategy.

Sponsors of Sotterley Plantation’s much anticipated cultural events are critical to our ability to offer entertainment and educational opportunities to our many visitors and guests. We proudly display the names of all sponsors because they have helped us to ensure the success of every event.

Matching Corporate Gifts
Hundreds of organizations offer a matching gift program that demonstrates just how much they care about their employees. Matching gifts boost the impact of your philanthropy and can increase your membership level. Speak to your Human Resource department to see if they will match your gift to Sotterley Plantation.

In-Kind Donations
In-kind donations are critically important to our ability to meet our mission. Sotterley could not continue making important educational and cultural contributions to the community without the generous in-kind donations we receive. Some of these donations include skilled manpower, printing, donated materials, office furniture, used vehicles, legal expertise, and more.

Sotterley was the fortunate recipient of an endowment start-up contribution, and our Endowment Fund was formally established in 2010. Growth of the Endowment is important to our long-term financial stability and to the advancement of our mission of preservation, interpretation and education. Endowed funds ensure a baseline of support for the foundation and help us to plan for Sotterley’s future.

To help meet the needs of our generous supporters, Sotterley Plantation can receive transfers of stock. You can be sure that your stock donation will be put to immediate use, allowing us to continue to preserve the past and protect the future of this singular National Historic Landmark.

Special Projects
From time to time, Sotterley Plantation is able to offer designated giving opportunities to our supporters. A wonderful and successful example of our restoration effort has been the Adopt-A-Tree program which was put in place to help replace the many trees lost during Hurricane Irene. This has now been transitioned into a general landscaping fund.

Planned Giving
Planned giving leaves a legacy that provides for the future of Sotterley Plantation. Pledges of planned gift commitments allow us to further our stewardship of this beautiful National Historic Landmark and continue our work of education and preservation in a reliable and predictable way.

What if there was a way to meet your philanthropic goals without impacting your current lifestyle and your charitable contribution left your current cash flow unchanged? Bequests are truly gifts anyone can afford. Your charitable contribution to Historic Sotterley Plantation will help our site remain open for the enjoyment of future generations.
