UNESCO International Day for the Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition

2019 commemorates 400 years since enslaved arrived to Jamestown, VA.
11:00 am Reading of names of known enslaved at Sotterley, and to pour libations and/or remember the ancestors at Sotterley’s Middle Passage Marker and slave cabin.
1:00 pm Hear and discuss how the slave trade and its abolition affect us all.
2:30 pm Sotterley’s bell will ring commemorating the known enslaved and the 29 known to have perished on the middle passage to Sotterley.
Check in at the Sotterley Visitor Center – free admission. Guided tours: 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:00pm, 2:00pm and 3:00 pm Limited to 20 people per tour.
